Andrew McIlroy's background was in fundraising and private sector support for the arts, first as Head of Communications for Arts and Business and then Secretary General of the European Committee for Culture and the Economy before becoming a consultant with Bondardo Comunicazione, a contemporary arts agency in Milan.
After spending some time in Beijing, he became a freelance consultant and writer working as a policy advisor for projects in the UK, Belgium, Lebanon, Russia, Ireland, Taiwan and the Caucasus before joining Future City in 2003, as a researcher, writer and international project manager. He was closely involved with the creation of the Cultural Master Planning toolkit and the conceptual foundations for Future City's work in this area of private sector urban development. He has a particular interest in systems and organisations going through the process of change.
Andrew has always been very involved in theatre, writing and directing and is now developing his writing ambitions further. He won the Channel Four Radio Play of the Year Competition in 2007 and his short stories have been published and broadcast in Belgium, the UK and Ireland.
He lives and works in Brussels.
