Futurecity was appointed by Ballymore Properties to develop a cultural strategy for Old Spitalfields Market which would promote and reinforce the market's position as a dynamic cultural hub at the heart of a neighbourhood that is both historic and trendsetting.

Futurecity's cultural strategy concentrated on preserving that which was successful at the market, whilst building on the unusual mix of culture, cuisine, creativity and multiculturalism that attracts tourists and visitors of all ages and nationalities. Spitalfields is seen by property developers and regeneration groups alike as a 21st century model for the benefits of culture and regeneration.

Futurecity's proposal looked at defining a 21st century identity for Spitalfields as a 'Cultural Market', encompassing imaginative ideas on how to brand the gates, lighting and signage of the market; a list of the types of activity possible within its walls and finally how a temporary use of the new retail units for cultural outcomes can add to the long term value of the market.
