In 2006 Futurecity were invited by Icelandic planning and environment agency 'ALTA' and UK architects John Thompson & Partners to join the project team for a new mixed use development 'Urridaholt' sited on a lava mountain near Gardabaaer, a commune close to Reykjavic.
Futurecity reviewed plans for 5000 new homes and a business and retail park, to provide a place making vision for the development
18 months of research and negotiation led to the 'Eco Gateway' comprising three proposals, building a new Museum of Natural History, providing a National Parks Visitors Centre and moving the Reykjavik University Environmental Campus on to the site.
'Urridaholt' won 'Silver' in the Environmentally Sustainable Project Awards Section of the 2007 LivCom Awards.
