Futurecity were appointed by Ballymore Properties in 2005 to develop a cultural strategy in partnership with the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham for the redevelopment of the Leamouth Peninsula. The Leamouth site is situated at the heart of a series of regeneration programmes including the Lea Valley, the river entrance to the area of land effected by the 2012 Olympic Bid and finally part of the Thames Gateway.

The Futurecity cultural strategy will define the guiding principals of the scheme, through a number of key projects. These will include a major cultural sponsorship to provide a leading UK arts organisation with a new headquarters, (to be announced in 2008) as well as a public art strategy for the scheme.

The Public Art Strategy will see the arts used at every level and every stage of the project, from land clearance and ground preparation to creative use of temporary architecture, hoardings, marketing suite, the use of redundant buildings, street furniture, lighting, sculpture, landscaping and architecture. The strategy will see the imaginative use of contemporary art and sculpture, photography and new media and partnerships with cultural and community organisations.
