Futurecity is working with Ballymore Property and Luton Labour MP, Margaret Moran, on the Luton 2012 Cultural Vision. This strategic brand approach to place-making aims to align the town with the aspirations of the Cultural Olympiad whilst providing local developers and policy makers with a handbook to cultural legacy planning.
Luton Airport is a strategic gateway to the UK and is expected to receive a record number of visitors during the Olympics. The position of the town and the re-development of Luton's urban landscape, offers an opportunity to reposition its cultural brand to attract tourism and inward investment.
The Luton 2012 Cultural Vision will unite all cultural activity under one brand leading up to the Olympics by encouraging members of the community, cultural organisations, business, the private and public sectors to champion or programme cultural activity. A competition facilitated by the University of Bedfordshire will involve students in the creation of Luton's logo for culture.
A handbook to cultural legacy planning will offer Luton feasible cultural options to gradually enhance the landscape and cultural infrastructure.
