Futurecity were commissioned by Land Securities to curate a public art sculpture project. The brief was to use the iconic ampersand logo of the developer 'Land Securities' to create two sculptures to sit on the two roundabouts as visitors and commuters enter the new Land Securities development 'Ebbsfleet Valley'. The theme of the sculptures needed to reflect the history of the area as vibrant and industrial, as well exploring the burgeoning new community focussed on the environment, socialising, commuting, technology and activity.

Fine art photographer, Jo Broughton, was commissioned by Futurecity to respond to this unique project, using research and photography to create an exciting photomontage. This was applied via the use of robust vinyl to the two large ampersand steel structures. The artist collaborated with designer Colm Roche on a different photographic montage for each sculpture. East London based, 'Sculpture Factory,' produced the two giant ampersands out of steel to which the vinyl was applied before installing on site in November 2007.

The ampersand sculptures were well received by the local area, attracting a wealth of local press coverage including a BBC news interviews with the artist and Land Securities representative Katy Goodman.

The 'Ebbsfleet Ampersands', are the first of many exciting artistic interventions within the Ebbsfleet Valley site, welcoming new Eurostar commuters and the local community into the regenerated area.
