Painter Oliver Marsden has developed a proposal in response to a brief developed by Futurecity with the client and design team, to create a high quality, focal work for Barratt West London's Rochester Row development in Victoria.
This is the first public art commission for Oliver who takes inspiration from the nature of water to create works with a beautiful visual tension and balance.
Oliver's proposal for Rochester row is concerned with visual pleasure and what he terms 'visual harmonics'. Each of the 58 steel panels embedded in the façade of the building will be individually etched to create fragments of the overall piece which viewed as a whole will appear as hundreds of fine concentric circles - reminiscent of a vinyl record or the circular ripples formed by a splash in water. The piece is designed to remain in constant flux, dependent upon the position of the viewer and the light conditions of the moment.
The artwork will cover the building from the 1st to the 6th floor, spanning a total area of more than 320 square metres.
