In 2004 Futurecity collaborated with B.A.R Honda to participate in a unique collaborative commission, whereby a contemporary artist would be offered privileged access to the largely guarded world of Formula One racing.
In consultation with the Blue Gallery Robert Davies was commissioned to produce a series of works that were then exhibited at the Gallery during March - April 2004. Futurecity was able to offer the artist the role of an outside commentator, but inside B.A.R Honda Davies had the full co-operation of the trackside team and was a critical observer in the tight-knit, carefully choreographed family of individuals driving the fortunes of the B.A.R Honda team including unprecedented access to B.A.R Honda.s Testing activities in Jerez, Spain, and trackside at the French Grand Prix in Magny Cours.
The resulting artwork consisted of a series of photographs of magnified details of elements of the cars, including close-ups of the rain lights, the radiator grills and the tyres before and after a race.
