Futurecity is pleased to see four projects where we developed comprehensive public art and placemaking strategies as 2021 Civic Trust Awards National / International Winners. The Civic Trust Awards encourage the best in architecture and environmental design but also reward projects that offer a positive cultural, social, economic or environmental benefit to their local communities.

Chelsea Barracks, London

Futurecity developed a public art strategy for client Qatari Diar at Chelsea Barracks with architects Squire & Partners, setting out opportunities for site-wide public art works, including balconies designed by Tord Boontje and Conrad Shawcross’s ‘Bicameral’, 8m tall and with 693 component parts.

English National Ballet

Glen Howells Architects’ striking English National Ballet building (for Ballymore’s ‘City Island’ development) resulted from our placemaking strategy, which proposed a stand-alone building, housing an arts anchor for the site.

Illuminated River

Futurecity brought together the winning team for the Illuminated River Project international competition, with artist Leo Villareal’s bold vision for the 15 bridges as one interconnected public artwork.

Royal Wharf

For our placemaking strategy for Ballymore’s Minoco Wharf site we came up with the name Royal Wharf and imagined the new pier, designed by Nex-Architects, as a gateway into a regenerated Royal Docks.
