Futurecity Curates New Public Artwork Commission by Coralie Turpin in The City Of London

8 July 2026

Futurecity, as curators of the cultural programme at 1 Golden Lane, is pleased to announce the appointment of artist Coralie Turpin to create a major new public artwork for the site.

Commissioned by Castleforge, the project marks an important next phase in the evolving cultural vision for 1 Golden Lane, building on its partnership with Heritage of London Trust and the development of the Proud Places Hub.

“Castleforge is proud to be collaborating with Coralie Turpin on this public artwork, extending our design vision into the wider community. Coralie’s final design reflects a strong commitment to creativity and community engagement, and we are excited to see it come to life. We are grateful to Futurecity and the Heritage of London Trust for their invaluable contributions to the project's success and are delighted with the outcome.”

James Locke, Senior Development Manager at Castleforge

At the heart of the commission is a deeply collaborative process. Working closely with the Proud Places team, Coralie Turpin has led an extensive programme of engagement with local schools and community groups through a series of creative workshops. These have resulted in a collection of mosaic murals inspired by the history and identity of the Golden Lane area.

These community-created works form the foundation for Turpin’s forthcoming permanent outdoor artwork, translating collective stories, textures and heritage into a lasting installation embedded within the local landscape.

“Philanthropy gives people a chance to make a better life. Inspired by the legacy of the Cripplegate Institute, 'Biblio-Textile' reflects the transformative role of education, creativity and public generosity in shaping both people and place. Through steel and mosaic, the work connects the architectural and cultural history of Golden Lane with the enduring potential of learning, community and shared civic identity.”

As curators, Futurecity has guided the commission from its early stages, shaping its direction and working closely with all partners to ensure the project is both ambitious in its artistic vision and grounded in the voices of the community.

“This commission demonstrates how meaningful collaboration can shape truly resonant public art. Working closely with Coralie Turpin, Castleforge and Proud Places, we have developed an ambitious artwork that is not only embedded in the physical landscape, but created with and for the local community, reflecting its histories, voices and future.”

Sinéad McCarthy, Curatorial Director at Futurecity

The commission reinforces 1 Golden Lane’s role as an emerging cultural destination within the City of London, where heritage, development and community-led creativity come together to create lasting social and cultural value.
