Seed130: In Bloom Opens

1 August 2025

National Trust and Transport for London come together at Seed130 to discover the joy of nature in unexpected places

In Bloom is the fourth exhibition at Seed130. This latest show celebrates over a century of green transformation across London’s transport network, where station staff and local communities have turned unlikely spaces into thriving gardens.

The exhibition brings together powerful new photography by British-Congolese artist Bernice Mulenga, commissioned by the National Trust with rarely seen archive images from the London Transport Museum - revealing how these gardens have long been spaces of creativity, connection and care.

In Bloom Step into a world where green spaces bloom in the most unexpected places.

What began as a staff gardening competition in 1910 has blossomed into a powerful and enduring tradition – transforming platforms, sidings and depots into vibrant green sanctuaries across London’s transport network.

In Bloom offers a fresh perspective on this quiet movement through contemporary photographs by Bernice Mulenga, known for their intimate, community-rooted practice. The artist captures the people behind these green spaces with warmth and honesty – from veteran station gardeners to newcomers nurturing their first shoots.

Through photographs, short films and stories, In Bloom explores how these often-overlooked spaces have become sources of joy, pride and community resilience, offering colour, care and creativity to the everyday journeys of millions.

Come and experience how nature flourishes in even the busiest corners of the city.

Bringing Green to the City: The National Trust’s Urban Mission

The National Trust is collaborating in urban settings to create and support green spaces that promote biodiversity, climate resilience, and community well-being. They're involved in a range of ambitious urban initiatives aimed at restoring nature, enhancing heritage, and improving public access to green spaces. Their work with local authorities, communities and organisations in London and across the country have helped transform neglected nature sites through projects like pocket parks, street-tree planting, canal-side enhancements, and green corridors, and laid the foundation for sustainable, community- and place-led transformation of urban landscapes. By combining environmental expertise with local partnerships, the National Trust is helping cities become greener, healthier, and more resilient places where both people and nature can thrive.

In Bloom is part of the National Trust's ongoing cultural programme, connecting people and places through art.
