Located at the gateway to the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea Opportunity Area, One Nine Elms is one of the most prominent regeneration sites on the South Bankm a major residential-led, mixed-use scheme situated at a key entrance to central London. The development forms part of a wider transformation of the Nine Elms area, including new infrastructure, commercial space, and cultural destinations.
Futurecity was appointed by R&F Properties to deliver a comprehensive cultural placemaking strategy for the site, fulfilling the cultural obligations of a complex Section 106 planning agreement with the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The completed strategy set out a framework for embedding culture across the lifetime of the development, establishing One Nine Elms as a place not only to live and stay, but to connect, engage and participate. The scheme includes two landmark towers, City Tower and River Tower, linked by a glazed bridge. The development delivers 437 new homes, over 730,000 sq. ft of residential space, 267,000 sq. ft of hotel accommodation, and more than 3,500 sq. ft of retail.
The River Tower houses the first Vista hotel outside China, including a luxury spa, ballroom, club house restaurant, karaoke bar, and a sky garden and residential lounge on level 50 with panoramic views across London.
Futurecity’s cultural strategy helped shape the site’s identity by integrating meaningful public realm experiences, cultural infrastructure, and long-term programming opportunities—ensuring the development contributes to the wider cultural life of the district and delivers on its potential as a gateway destination.
