White City

Futurecity developed a Cultural Placemaking Strategy for White City to support a major residential-led regeneration within the wider White City Opportunity Area. The strategy set out how culture could play a central role in shaping identity, public realm and community life as the area evolves.

Informed by a detailed cultural audit, the strategy mapped White City’s creative ecology and layered social and industrial history. This research informed a long-term vision that embedded culture into the masterplan from the outset, ensuring new homes, public spaces and infrastructure were animated by meaningful cultural activity rather than relying on standalone interventions.

A set of placemaking principles guided delivery across the lifetime of the development, focusing on embedded art, community-led projects, meanwhile uses and partnerships with local and national cultural organisations. Culture was conceived as an integrated tool shaping movement, landscape, play and public space, supported by clear governance and stewardship models.

Together, the strategy provides a practical framework for culture-led regeneration, enabling White City to emerge as a distinctive, inclusive neighbourhood with a strong sense of place rooted in local character and creative production.
