Chelsea Futurespace was an exemplary collaboration between Chelsea College of Art and Design and developer St James Group. Occupying a ground floor, glass fronted unit within the Grosvenor Waterside development, this meanwhile activation provided a showcase exhibiting space, which ran from 2006 – 2013, for the alumni and staff of Chelsea College of Art and Design.
Exhibitions within the space explored a variety of approaches and practices through painting, textiles, collage, drawing, print and objects, exploring the intersections between fine art, craft and design. The space featured a series of mobile exhibition walls, designed by Calumn Storrie, that were designed to adapt to the needs of each show and event.
Chelsea Futurespace was curated by Donald Smith and was launched with an exhibition of works by Stephen Farthing RA. The space hosted over 75 exhibitions over the seven year partnership, ending with an exhibition by Peter Burke RA.
