Futurecity developed a comprehensive Cultural Plan for the refurbishment of 1 Golden Lane, reimagining the former Cripplegate Institute as a hub for culture and community. The strategy includes the creation of a new cultural workshop and event space, with an adjoining café and gallery open to the public.
Working with partners including the Barbican Centre, the POoR Collective and Heritage of London Trust, the plan integrates a co-designed public realm commission that draws on the site’s civic history. The 115,000 sq ft office scheme aims for net zero operational carbon, with BREEAM Outstanding aspirations and urban greening by Andy Sturgeon Design.
This new cultural anchor will restore the site’s legacy as a place for education, culture and connection, while embedding long-term social value through local partnerships and programming.
