81 Newgate Street

Futurecity was commissioned to deliver a cultural plan and operations strategy for 81 Newgate Street, supporting its transformation into a new cultural destination within London’s Culture Mile. At the centre of the project is a major digital screen, curated in collaboration with the Barbican, to host a dynamic programme of digital artworks and cultural content aligned with Destination City and Barbican events.

The redevelopment retains and reuses the existing building structure, dramatically reducing embodied carbon and waste. With ambitious sustainability goals - net zero operational carbon, high urban greening and over 1,000 cycle spaces - the project merges innovation, placemaking and culture in the heart of the City. Showcasing some of the Barbican’s ground-breaking programming, and supporting a renowned City institution, the project offers an inclusive, high-impact model for digital placemaking.
