Futurecity developed a Cultural Strategy for South Eveleigh, formerly the Australian Technology Park, commissioned by Mirvac. Located at a key point of connection between inner south Sydney and the central business district, the site offered a significant opportunity to use culture to support connectivity, identity and long-term place stewardship.
The strategy was informed by a comprehensive cultural audit of the neighbourhoods surrounding South Eveleigh - areas with one of the highest concentrations of creative practitioners in Sydney - alongside research into the site’s industrial history and Indigenous heritage. This local intelligence was supported by international case studies and ethnographic analysis, building a nuanced understanding of the site’s cultural context.
Research findings were translated into a series of proposals for cultural programming and activation across both the buildings and the wider precinct. These approaches considered how culture could operate at multiple scales, from everyday use to large-scale events, and how it could evolve alongside the site’s redevelopment.
The strategy also set out practical recommendations for long-term stewardship, identifying delivery models and strategic partnerships to support ongoing cultural activity. Together, the framework provides a clear, adaptable approach to embedding culture within South Eveleigh’s transformation, ensuring cultural value is sustained beyond initial development phases.
