This towering six metre, aluminium artwork pays homage to the site’s heritage as a working dock and sits in contrast to the surrounding contemporary architecture.
The sculpture is an abstraction – a precariously stacked tower of improvised garden sheds, a common British allotment feature, which was often constructed of reused and found materials.
By casting this temporary structure into a permanent installation, Wilson sought to change the impermanent into the monumental.
The architectural references of the sculpture highlight the changing cycles of the Grosvenor Dock – through reuse, redundancy and renewal.
Wilson’s proposal was selected from a competition and delivered as part of the Westminster public art programme.
